Sellers named Newcomer AD of the Year

Pattonville High School activities director Jason Sellers was named the St. Louis Area Newcomer Activities Director of the Year by the St. Louis Area Missouri Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (MIAAA). Sellers was selected as the Pirates’ new activities coordinator in April 2020.

The Pattonville Board of Education on Nov. 2 voted to select Dr. Barry Nelson as the next superintendent of the Pattonville School District, effective upon the retirement of Dr. Tim Pecoraro, the district’s current superintendent.

Wang announced as a semifinalist in the “I Voted” sticker contest

Pattonville High School junior Tara Wang has been announced as a semifinalist in the “I Voted” sticker contest hosted by the St. Louis County Board of Elections in partnership with the St. Louis County Library. 

Wang’s artwork was chosen as one of the top three designs in the 9th-12th grade category by the judging panel meaning the artwork will move on to the public voting on Nov. 5. 

She completed her design as part of an optional assignment in Kelli Dornfeld’s Graphic Design 1 class.

Orchestra students connect with Scottish musician

Orchestra students from Holman and Pattonville Heights middle schools participated in a music workshop with Brian McNeill, a Scottish folk multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, record producer and musical director. Students worked with McNeill via Zoom to learn about and practice Scottish music.

Rose Acres students create storybook pumpkins

During the Scholastic Book Fair at Rose Acres, library technology specialist Nicole Mikel grew a storybook pumpkin patch. Jasper Rabbit from “Creepy Carrots!” was joined by 79 additional book characters.

“The kids picked book characters that they love and created pumpkins at home,” Mikel said. “Some were really creative, and it was fun to see and hear how our families came together and worked with their kids on them."

Drummond fourth graders adopt a baby cow

Old MacDrummond had a farm, E-I-E-I-O!!!  

St. Louis District Dairy Council has partnered with dairy farmers in Illinois and Missouri to bring the Adopt-A-Calf School Program to classrooms. The no-cost program allows classes to “adopt” a calf from one of its farmers, name it, and receive monthly pictures and updates.

Fourth grade teacher Ginger Roberts has participated in the program for a few years. 

“Our class named our cow Toast and she lives at Clover Farms which is a real farm in Illinois,” Roberts said.
