Five Rose Acres students published in anthology

Four students in PEGS - Program for Exceptionally Gifted Students and Rose Acres fifth grader Nafas Parsang held a book signing after they were named winners and finalists in the St. Louis Writers Guild Young Writers Contest and had their stories published in a collection.

Held from August to October, young writers are given a first line and then they provide the next 500 to 1,500 words. Out of the hundreds of entries received, fourth graders Donald McCullough, Jackson McCullough and Adelaide Pagel, and fifth graders Parsang and Eva Pulley had their stories selected.

At Friday’s event, all of the students received a certificate and a gift bag with their own book from the Writers Guild. The students signed each copy and read aloud their stories that began with the opening line of "When the door opened ..."

Pattonville Fire donates toys for families in need

The Pattonville Fire Protection District dropped off gifts it collected during a toy drive to assist families that are in need in the Pattonville School District.
 
On Dec. 20, the Pattonville Early Childhood Center was visited not by Santa’s sleigh, but by a bright red ambulance and antique fire truck filled with donated toys.

Three big winners in Clifford's Big Red Movie Poster Contest

Three third grade students enrolled in the Program for Exceptionally Gifted Students (PEGS) at Rose Acres Elementary were announced as winners of Scholastic’s Clifford’s Big Red Movie Poster Contest.
 
DJ Hopson was a grand prize winner and will receive a DVD and book in addition to a movie screening party for his whole class. Evie Yakel and Pearl Krieger were among the 15 runner-ups and won a DVD and graphic novel.

Board approves districtwide facilities plan, seeks zero-tax-rate-change bond issue in April

The Pattonville Board of Education on Dec. 14 approved asking Pattonville residents to vote on a $111 million zero-tax-rate-change bond issue on April 5, 2022 to fund a new master facilities plan for the district. The plan calls for adding classrooms to address growth in student enrollment; providing safety and maintenance improvements; and updating school facilities to meet current and future teaching and learning needs (see project lists below). Approval of the bond issue would not require an increase in the district tax rate.

Students, staff recognized at the Dec. 14 board meeting

Each month during the school year, the Pattonville Board of Education honors students, staff and volunteers who have gained recognition outside of the district. Students from Rose Acres Elementary School, Holman Middle School and Pattonville High School were recognized at the Dec. 14 board meeting.
