Students, staff recognized at Jan. 11 board meeting

Each month during the school year, the Pattonville Board of Education honors students, staff and volunteers who have gained recognition outside of the district. Students and staff from Rose Acres Elementary School, Holman Middle School, Pattonville Heights Middle School and Pattonville High School were recognized in January.

Four file for seats on Pattonville school board

Four candidates filed to be placed on the April 5 election ballot to fill two open seats on Pattonville Board of Education. Those who filed to serve a three-year term on the board are, in order of filing, Daniel Wentz, incumbent Mary Kay Campbell, Summer Johnson and Akeia P. Mathis. Board members whose terms are expiring are Campbell and Ruth Petrov. Find out more about each candidate below.

Rose Acres students donate Market Day proceeds to local organization

Fifth graders in Carrie Heine’s class at Rose Acres Elementary raised $400 during their Market Day event and donated all the proceeds to Loaves and Fishes, a local charitable organization.

Heine teaches the students using a project-based learning method and recently completed a unit about personal and business finance. Through their learning journey, they also learned about philanthropy.

Chemistry students complete ionic compound lab

Chemistry students at Pattonville High School did a microscale lab on Tuesday. They took one drop of 13 different solutions and mixed it with one drop of each of the other solutions to see if a reaction took place. The color changes for some were pretty dramatic.
 
“Microscaling labs are popular because the students still see the reaction, but it cuts way down on waste and resources needed for each lab,” chemistry teacher Rebecca Byrne said.

Dear Pattonville families and staff,

As we begin our second half of the school year, we are excited to see students and staff back in our classrooms, even as the COVID-19 pandemic dominates the news and requires continued precautions. Our goals remain to keep our schools open and to protect the health and well-being of our students and staff. Our board-established safety net requiring all schools with positivity rates of 2% or higher to wear masks has been activated at all schools, and we continue to work with the county health department on protocols regarding positive cases. As we move forward, here are a few important things to know:
