The Pattonville Board of Education on Dec. 14 reviewed calendars which outline important dates for the next two school years. The board is expected to vote on the calendars during the Jan. 11 board meeting. Important dates for each school year are listed below, along with links to printable draft calendars.
Please join us in congratulating the following individuals on their new roles. The following administrative changes were discussed at the Dec. 14 Pattonville Board of Education meeting and will become effective July 1.
David Besgrove has been named chief human resource officer for the Pattonville School District, replacing Dr. Barry Nelson, assistant superintendent for human resources, who will become superintendent of Pattonville on July 1.
Dr. Tori Cain’s position will be reclassified to assistant superintendent for student services.
Kelly Gordon has been named chief communications officer, replacing Mickey Schoonover, APR, upon her retirement at the end of the school year.
Gene Grimshaw was named associate principal of Pattonville High School, replacing Bob Thompson, who is retiring at the end of the school year.
Dr. Mark Houston was selected as the principal of Pattonville Heights Middle School, replacing Dr. Scot Mosher, who is retiring at the end of the school year.
When you add exercise and math together, it equals a fun review game played in Chelsey Wiersma’s second grade classroom at Willow Brook Elementary.
She created the nine math stations that require students to do an exercise and solve a word problem as a way to prepare for their unit test.
“I have a very active group this year so I had to find a way to incorporate moving and working on math together,” she said. “This is the third time we’ve done this activity and they’ve really enjoyed it.”
J’Kiyah Teasley said it is a fun way to make her body and brain stronger.
“I love exercising and I workout at my house all the time and it’s really cool because whenever you do it, your body gets stronger, and by working on math problems, I guess two things got stronger.”
As we approach the end of the first semester, I want to update you on upcoming changes to our health and safety protocols related to COVID-19. A recent ruling by a circuit court judge in Cole County has challenged the authority of state and local health officials’ ability to issue certain health orders. While the ruling has put into question the authority of local health departments, our school district’s authority and obligation to prevent the spread of contagious diseases remains unchanged. Pattonville has a legal obligation to prevent the spread of contagious disease in schools, which is supported by Missouri State Statutes 167.191 and 171.011, Pattonville Board of Education Policy EBB (Communicable Diseases) and a Missouri Supreme Court ruling (State ex. Rel. O’Bannon v. Cole).
Three Pattonville School District teachers earned their certification as a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT).
Drummond Elementary second grade teacher Ashley Burd and first grade teacher Amber Wilson each earned certification in Generalist/Early Childhood and Remington Traditional English learner specialist Michele Hill achieved certification in English as a New Language/Early and Middle Childhood Path 2.
NBCT is considered the gold standard in teacher certification and is designed to develop, retain and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide. Certification is awarded by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS), and NBCTs can keep their certification active by completing a Maintenance of Certification (MOC) every five years.
