Pattonville High School senior Mya Harris was awarded a four year all-expense paid scholarship to the college or university of her choice. After delivering a national qualifying speech for debate about the politics of Black hair, Harris was offered a summer internship with the Simmons Hanly Conroy law firm. She was not only the first high schooler to earn an internship with the law firm, but she has been chosen as the first SHC Scholar. In a public statement: “As an SHC Scholar, hard work and a commitment to speech and debate has afforded Mya a life changing opportunity.” Harris plans to pursue her dream of becoming a biomedical engineer or a bioethical attorney with hopes of paving a new path for girls of color.
