“Miss Kathy” was one of three Pattonville bus drivers working with Drummond Elementary School students today teaching them about the importance of bus safety. Classes took turns getting onto a bus where students were able to practice a school bus evacuation.
“Before we go out the back door, we go over all the different scenarios and talk about what they might have to do if there is an emergency while they are on the bus,” Miss Kathy said.
Emergency evacuation training is required for all students each year.
“They need to know where to look for the emergency exit signs and need to know how to use the different escape routes including the doors and windows.”
She told them it’s probably something they’ll never have to use, but they have to be prepared.
“We want everybody to get off safely and want to make sure nobody gets left behind or gets hurt in the process.”
