Pattonville sophomore Elise Banks was chosen to participate in the 86th annual Sophomore Pilgrimage sponsored by the General Federation of Women's Clubs of Missouri (GFWC-MO). A sophomore from each high school in the state is selected by the faculty to attend the event.
She was told by high school principal Dr. Joe Dobrinic about three weeks ago she was the Pattonville High School representative.
“I didn’t know why I was being called down to his office because I knew I didn’t do anything to get in trouble.”
It was actually a meeting to let her know she has done everything right. Selection is based on the student's demonstrated citizenship, scholarship and qualities of courage, service and honor. The student selected must also be scholastically in the top quarter of the sophomore class.
Members of the Spongey Books from Parkwood Elementary raised their arms in celebration when the final points totals were posted and they realized they won this year’s district-wide Mark Twain Book Battle. They narrowly defeated two teams from Rose Acres that tied for second place and it took three tie-breaker questions to determine the final standings. Another team from Parkwood finished in fourth.
The Book Battle is an annual trivia-type competition hosted by Pattonville's school library technology specialists. During the event, teams of students compete on their knowledge of a predesignated list of books. For the elementary contest, participating students read from among the 12 books nominated by the Missouri Association of School Librarians for the Mark Twain Readers Award.
Pattonville is receiving a second round of federal COVID-19 relief funds to support schools being operational during the global pandemic. Pattonville is using the federal funds to support its health and safety mitigation efforts in its schools.
Voters in the Pattonville School District on April 6 elected incumbent Jeanne Schottmueller and new board member Brandon R. Wilkes to two open seats on the Pattonville Board of Education. Surprise visits took place around Pattonville School District on April 1 and 5 as finalists were announced for the 2020-2021 Teacher and Support Staff of the Year awards. Winners of the inaugural Rookie of the Year Award were also revealed.
